Situation 1 -

You are stuck in Island for long and you get to take only 10 species of Birds. Which ones would you like them to be?

Rule –

1. You can’t eat the Birds

replies (modified for the article): -

1. A Bengal Florican – It is amazing to watch specially the gait.

2. A Brown headed stork-billed kingfisher. I like its call very much. Very sweet to ears like a music

3. A Swan for me to feed during the day.

4. A tame cockatoo to keep me company in my make-shift hut

5. A hunting falcon to give me some meals

6. A rooster to wake me up and give warning signals

7. A hen – Eggs are tasty

8. An ostrich - bigger eggs are tastier

9. Racket-tailed drongo - more for the price of one?( hear animal

Sounds)

10. A hummingbird - Let it contribute to pollination.

You said species - the Rooster and the Hen are the same. So you still get one more species. BTW The Ostrich can provide you a ride - see the latest Prince of Persia action flick ;-). The egg shell will provide you with utensils.

I suggest you add a cormorant, it will help you fish. Plus its faeces will give you guano - useful for growing food crops.

Replace the swan with a goose - you get food & down to keep you warm.

Replace a hummingbird with a prolific seabird such as a shearwater & petrel - these are muttonbirds. Let insects pollinate your flora.

The stork-billed kingfisher is nice, but a Hill Myna or a Parrot ( I recommend the Sulphur Cockatoo) makes good company.
